Eyepieces with a built-in micrometer are sensitive to dust. Please note:

  • Remove the eyepiece from the tube as little as possible
  • Dust particles on the micrometer scale are immediately visible in the image
  • Cleaning the micrometer scale is a precision task; follow the instructions on the Optics Cleaning page

Tip: Prevention is easier than cleaning. Keep the eyepiece in place as much as possible.

Dust particles visible in the camera image

To check whether dust is present on the protective glass of the CCD sensor:

  • Rotate the camera
  • Do the dust particles remain in the same position? Then they are on the protective glass, not on the sensor itself

Please note: cleaning must be carried out with great care. Even a small scratch on the glass surface will be immediately visible in the camera image.
